Wet Conditions Delay Start of Dulles Lax Tourney's Until Monday

(May 7, 2009) – How bad are field conditions after days and days of rain? Consider that the Stone Bridge High School boys soccer team in a bid to get in their Senior Night home game against South Lakes — a game already moved twice — are now playing the game at Marshall High School tonight on their turf field.

The Bulldogs who just played a game Wednesday night at Marshall — beating the Statemen 3-0 in rainy conditions that featured several downpours — will have to hold Senior Night now when they open the AAA Liberty District tournament on Monday with a quarterfinal at home.

Even some of the games that got in Wednesday night, probably shouldn’t have as Stone Bridge prevailed over Langley in baseball, 8-3, in a five-inning game with poor conditions.

Dulles District athletic directors have already decided to postponed tonight’s boys and girls lacrosse quarterfinals — moving the tournament start back to Monday. The semifinals are now slated for Wed. May 13 and finals are Thurs. May 14.

Also, Park View sent word just before 2 p.m. than the baseball doubleheader, softball game and girls soccer match have all ben postponed tonight as they have standing water still on the playing fields. The Best of the Rest track and field meet will go on with no field events.

The tennis matches are still on for today at Loudoun Valley/Liberty.

The district lacrosse games have been canceled for today. We are hoping to play them tomorrow, with the girls at 5pm, boys at 6:30, followed by varsity boys soccer at 8pm.

If our field is unplayable, we will move the lacrosse games to Shenandoah University (5/6:30), and cancel the soccer game here.
